ROLE DESCRIPTION –   PAST PRESIDENT

 PROBUS CANADA MISSION:

Provide regular monthly and other gatherings (events) for retired and semi-retired individuals who appreciate and value opportunities to meet with others of similar interests.

PROBUS CANADA OVERVIEW:

Probus is a volunteer-based, non-profit, non-political, non-sectarian fellowship organization with over 4,000 clubs worldwide (250 in Canada with 35,000+ members). Focused on promoting healthy minds and bodies in a venue of socializing, with other retirees in the communities.

ROLE TITLE: Past President                                           ROLE TENURE: 1 or 2 years

Note: This is a generic role description. It may be prudent to modify elements in the case of a previous Co-President resigning from the office (ie one of the original Co- Presidents is now President)

ROLE OVERVIEW:

The Past President acts as a key Advisor and Mentor to the incoming leadership, providing continuity, historical context, and stability to the Leadership Team. They serve as a vital link between the old and new administrations, typically sitting on the Leadership Committee to support the current President – generally for a 1-year term.

PRIMARY SKILLS:

  • Experience: Having served as Club President immediately prior to the current term
  • Attendance: Participate in Leadership Meetings, general meetings and annual general meetings
  • Compliance: Monitor Leadership Team performance and ensure compliance with club bylaws and policies
  • Key Focus Areas: (1) Leadership Development (2) Strategic Continuity (3) Advisory (counsel)
  • Skills: Basic Accounting / Organization / Manage Deadlines / Communication and Interpersonal

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Mentorship and Support: Provision of guidance
  • Continuity: Offer historical perspective re past decisions / projects / policies to inform
  • Advisory: Counsel and advice in discussions
  • Nomination Support: May assist Recruitment Committee re new Leadership Team members
  • Transition Facilitation: Work with incoming President to ensure a smooth transfer of records, files and bank signing authorities / May assist with special Assignments, projects, committee work
