ROLE DESCRIPTION – SPECIAL INTEREST COMMITTEE

PROBUS CANADA MISSION:

Provide regular monthly and other gatherings (events) for retired and semi-retired individuals who appreciate and value opportunities to meet with others of similar interests.

PROBUS CANADA OVERVIEW:

Probus is a volunteer-based, non-profit, non-political, non-sectarian fellowship organization with over 4,000 clubs worldwide (250 in Canada with 35,000+ members). Focused on promoting healthy minds and bodies in a venue of socializing, with other retirees in the communities.

ROLE TITLE: Special Interest Committee Co-Chairs (2)       ROLE TENURE: 2 years

Note: Duties are split to more effectively manage workloads and align with individual expertise

ROLE OVERVIEW:

A Leadership role that represents the needs (formation and sustaining) of Special Interest Groups. Focused on the logistics of fostering a specific, specialized area of interest among members (e.g. a sub group for photography, cooking etc). Responsible for responding to Member queries regarding the formation of such interest groups – seeking primary group leads, developing member interest, sign up activities, timing, organizing, representing the groups – all with a view to building a community of participating members within that specialized topic.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Strategy: Planning and goal setting / define purpose / assist with set-up (budget, schedules)
  • Activity Management: Plan and organize in person / online meetings, workshops, field trips / Lunch Bunch / respond to member e-mails and queries / sourcing Interest Group locations
  • Communication and Liaison: Point of contact to Leadership Team / report on progress and needs / pro-active development of marketing and supports to solicit attendance
  • Member Engagement: Encourage participation / follow-up on potential new Interest Groups
  • Representation and Reporting: Provide their voice / view – points to Leadership Team
  • Financial: Collaborate with Treasurer for potential required funding
