ROLE DESCRIPTION – SPEAKER CHAIR
PROBUS CANADA MISSION:
Provide regular monthly and other gatherings (events) for retired and semi-retired individuals who appreciate and value opportunities to meet with others of similar interests.
PROBUS CANADA OVERVIEW:
Probus is a volunteer-based, non-profit, non-political, non-sectarian fellowship organization with over 4,000 clubs worldwide (250 in Canada with 35,000+ members). Focused on promoting healthy minds and bodies in a venue of socializing, with other retirees in the communities.
ROLE TITLE: Speaker Chair ROLE TENURE: 2 years
NAME: Renee Procenko
ROLE OVERVIEW:
Responsible to research, identify, confirm and book guest speakers for club meetings. While managing the guest speaker process, ensures that guest speakers are engaging, informative and aligned with the club’s mission.

PRIMARY SKILLS:
- Work within and across a team of volunteers and members to follow through on potential / suggested speakers
- Communication: Well-honed written and verbal skills for positive outreach and hosting
- Organization: Capable of researching a potential series of speakers/ developing a plan to engage with future speakers and schedules / implement monthly speaker forums
- Problem Solving: Ability to organize last minute cancellations / tech issues with confidence
- Networking: Comfortable working through a network of individuals / digital sources to provide meaningful speakership at club events, in alignment with member requests
- Public Speaking: Confident and experienced to provide exciting introductions to speakers in the monthly member meetings
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Speaker Recruitment: Researching, contacting and inviting appropriate speakers
- Scheduling / Booking: Maintaining a schedule of speakers / dates for the year
- Promotion: Communication of speakers via website in support of event promotion
- Event Coordination: Act as point of contact / switching dates / manage cancellations
- Relationship Management: Cultivate a database of potential speakers / send thank you notes
- Financial: Advise Treasurer of potential and actual speaker expenses / pay speaker according to terms agreed upon
