ROLE DESCRIPTION – MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE CHAIR

PROBUS CANADA MISSION:

Provide regular monthly and other gatherings (events) for retired and semi-retired individuals who appreciate and value opportunities to meet with others of similar interests.

PROBUS CANADA OVERVIEW:

Probus is a volunteer-based, non-profit, non-political, non-sectarian fellowship organization with over 4,000 clubs worldwide (250 in Canada with 35,000+ members). Focused on promoting healthy minds and bodies in a venue of socializing, with other retirees in the communities.

ROLE TITLE: Membership Committee Co- Chairs (2)                 ROLE TENURE: 2 years

Note: Duties are split to more effectively manage workloads and align with individual expertise

ROLE OVERVIEW:

Co-lead the planning, recruitment and retention of members monthly and annually, to ensure individual engagement and ongoing sustainability of Markham Probus goals. Provide efficient and timely membership administration including responsibility for effective member communications, to foster a welcoming community volunteer club.

PRIMARY SKILLS:

  • Communication: Writing, verbal, phone and public speaking
  • Administrative: Manage and monitor a group of 300 members / Excel proficiency
  • Team Work: Within and across a volunteer Leader Group of 8 -10 individuals  
  • Monthly Reports: Update team on status / concerns in monthly Leadership meetings

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Membership: Provide and process New Member Forms / manage onboarding and name tags / respond to member queries / update member records / act as prime member contact / lead on annual membership renewal program / update Treasurer re Revenues
  • Member Engagement: Promote and assist in developing engagement / retention activities
  • Monthly Member Meetings: Manage attendee lists / updates to membership (ie birthdays, etc.)
  • Monthly Leader Meetings: Work within and across team functions and provide resolutions to queries and issues / deliver updates on membership
  • Engagement: Facilitate member related decision making
  • Other: Maintain a store of useful tools (pens / tickets / name forms / sympathy cards etc.) / may lead a sub-group
