ROLE DESCRIPTION – AV & TECHSUPPORT

PROBUS CANADA MISSION:

Provide regular monthly and other gatherings (events) for retired and semi-retired individuals who appreciate and value opportunities to meet with others of similar interests.

PROBUS CANADA OVERVIEW:

Probus is a volunteer-based, non-profit, non-political, non-sectarian fellowship organization with over 4,000 clubs worldwide (250 in Canada with 35,000+ members). Focused on promoting healthy minds and bodies in a venue of socializing, with other retirees in the communities.

ROLE TITLE: AV & TECH SUPPORT    NAME: Bill Simmons & Galin Tranov     ROLE TENURE: 2 years

ROLE OVERVIEW:
Responsible for supporting the smooth delivery of club meetings and events (300+ members) through reliable audio-visual and technical execution. Ensures all AV equipment and technology platforms are set up, functional, and user-friendly. This role serves as the primary point of contact for all AV and technical support needs, helping presenters and organizers deliver engaging, seamless experiences for members.

Maintains, manages, and enhances the club’s AV and tech capabilities to inform, engage, and support members and guest speakers.

PRIMARY SKILLS:

Basic Technical: Familiarity with common AV equipment (microphones, speakers, projectors, laptops)

Technical Proficiency: Comfort with presentation tools and platforms (Zoom, PowerPoint, Google Slides)
Communication: Clear verbal and written communication with both technical and non-technical individuals
Attention to Detail: Ability to ensure all equipment and presentations are tested and event-ready
Time Management: Ability to arrive early, set up efficiently, and support events on schedule

Problem Solving: Quickly troubleshoot and resolve technical or AV issues during live events
Budget Awareness: Understanding of club expense considerations when recommending equipment or upgrades
Teamwork: Collaborate effectively with a team of volunteer retirees

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Setup & Operation: Prepare, test, and operate AV equipment for meetings and events (sound, projection, Zoom as needed)
Support: Assist presenters and guest speakers with slides, microphones, and technical setup
Troubleshooting: Quickly resolve any audio, visual, or connectivity issues during events
Maintenance: Ensure equipment is stored properly, maintained, and in good working order
Coordination: Work with event organizers and leadership team to understand technical requirements in advance

Collaboration: Partner with volunteers and committee members to support smooth event execution
Inventory & Budget: Track equipment, recommend upgrades if needed, and align with budget parameters
Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to enhance the member experience through improved AV and tech solutions
