ROLE DESCRIPTION – MEMBER AT LARGE
PROBUS CANADA MISSION:
Provide regular monthly and other gatherings (events) for retired and semi-retired individuals who appreciate and value opportunities to meet with others of similar interests.
PROBUS CANADA OVERVIEW:
Probus is a volunteer-based, non-profit, non-political, non-sectarian fellowship organization with over 4,000 clubs worldwide (250 in Canada with 35,000+ members). Focused on promoting healthy minds and bodies in a venue of socializing, with other retirees in the communities.
ROLE TITLE: Member at Large (2) ROLE TENURE: 2 years
Note: Duties are split to more effectively manage workloads and align with individual expertise

ROLE OVERVIEW:
- Is a flexible, voting member of the Club’s Leadership Team / represents the general membership rather than a specific portfolio. May be an active Committee / Sub- Committee participant lending additional support for specific venues. Attends and provides input at meetings / assist with special projects to deliver on goals. The idea is that incumbents to this role are generalists that can be relied upon to assist across any number of tasks which may lead to a permanent support function.

- Versatility: Pivot between tasks in alignment with current plans
- Communication: Effective verbal, written and Word, coupled with collaboration, positive attitude and neutral inputs

- Strategic Thinking: Contributor to strategic planning and organizational oversight
- Adaptable: Role has no fixed, specific portfolio allowing the member to “fill gaps” / take on ad hoc tasks and gain experience for other more permanent roles
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Meetings: Attend at monthly Leadership Team meetings as a full voting member
- Flexible Support: Provides extra capacity for the Leadership Team / available to step in and assist Committee and Sub- Committee Leaders as needed
- Special Projects: May lead ad hoc committees / projects / administration etc
- Advisor: May be asked to provide a diverse perspective and offer membership “priority voices” in support of issues, concerns// assist with resolving
- Development: Understand that the function may be an entry level Leadership Team role with a view to learning about Operations / infrastructure / Team dynamics / action planning and implementation leading to a potential specialized role
