ROLE DESCRIPTION – NEWSLETTER EDITOR
PROBUS CANADA MISSION:
Provide regular monthly and other gatherings (events) for retired and semi-retired individuals who appreciate and value opportunities to meet with others of similar interests.
PROBUS CANADA OVERVIEW:
Probus is a volunteer-based, non-profit, non-political, non-sectarian fellowship organization with over 4,000 clubs worldwide (250 in Canada with 35,000+ members). Focused on promoting healthy minds and bodies in a venue of socializing, with other retirees in the communities.
ROLE TITLE: Newsletter Editor NAME: Renee Procenko (temporary) ROLE TENURE: 2 years
ROLE OVERVIEW:
Responsible to write and edit text, create graphics to accompany text, convert photos and drawings into digital images and then manipulate, to finalize a monthly Club product for the Markham Probus website. Role would incorporate the 5 elements of an effective newsletter: (1) Readability (2) Storytelling value (3) Reader focus (4) Call to action (5) Attractive user-friendly design.

PRIMARY SKILLS:
- Writing: Experience and understanding of writing mechanics including spelling, capitalization, punctuation, keyboarding and sentence / paragraph structure
- Very proficient using the Canva graphic design platform
- Newsletter layout: Such as short paragraphs / bulleted lists / headings / font / color
- Editing: Excellent editing skills with ability to adapt to style guidelines
- Team Work: Within and across a volunteer Leader group of 8 – 10 individuals
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Direction: Incorporate President overview and details regarding content and layout
- Create: Monthly newsletters from approved content provided by President
- Process: Ensure engaging / relevant / concise writing / clear subject lines / suitable to the audience / deliver to website
- Timelines: Work within stated deadlines / obtain clarifications often, as necessary
- Counsel: provide counsel to President and Leader team regarding most effective marketing strategies for a given project or event
- Audience: Discuss with Leader team, most appropriate audience engagement strategies (which may differ depending on project or event)
