ROLE DESCRIPTION – PRESIDENT

PROBUS CANADA MISSION:

Provide regular monthly and other gatherings (events) for retired and semi-retired individuals who appreciate and value opportunities to meet with others of similar interests.

PROBUS CANADA OVERVIEW:

Probus is a volunteer-based, non-profit, non-political, non-sectarian fellowship organization with over 4,000 clubs worldwide (250 in Canada with 35,000+ members). Focused on promoting healthy minds and bodies in a venue of socializing, with other retirees in the communities.

ROLE TITLE: Co-Presidents (2)                                      ROLE TENURE: 2 years 

Note: Duties are split to more effectively manage workloads and align with individual expertise

ROLE OVERVIEW:

Provides primary leadership, setting the strategic vision, goals and direction to ensure the organization fulfills its mission. Presides over monthly Leadership / Member meetings and manages operations, fostering member engagement while ensuring compliance with Club rules. Oversees Committees, Member events while cultivating a positive, active volunteer culture.

PRIMARY SKILLS:

  • Experience: Prior leadership roles and hands-on people management exposure
  • Motivation: Attention to club volunteers / foster a positive membership culture
  • Planning and Organization: Guide committees / deadline management / monitor member feedback re events / re-calibrate results for future endeavors as necessary
  • Governance: Align to Probus Canada / compliance with accounting principles / banking requirements including cheque authorities
  • Financial: oversee and guide positive financial outcomes

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Leadership and Strategy: Develop and implement annual objectives and strategic plans / guide Leadership Team / evaluate organizational effectiveness
  • Operational Oversight: Oversee Club activities (including Financial Management) / compliance and adherence to Probus Canada mission
  • Meeting Management: Chair and facilitate Leader / Member monthly meetings / program agendas / coordinate with other committee leads
  • Volunteer Cultivation: Motivate members / foster enthusiasm / lead recruitment for committee succession
  • Decision Making: Facilitate decisions / ensure clarity / assign for implementation
  • Probus Representation: Primary liaison between Markham Probus and Probus Canada
  • President Succession Planning: Conduct hands-on activities to secure replacement continuity
